When Grant and I first moved into this apartment two years ago this room was originally a nursery for twin boys. The walls were khaki with giraffe decals and as cute as that was I wanted to transform this room into a cozy den for us and I immediately knew I wanted to paint it a rich blue.
My nephew painted the work of art hanging above the nesting tables. I think showcasing children's art is really fun and to be honest I think this four year old's painting is pretty awesome compared to some of the super pricey pieces that are almost identical!
After deciding on the room color I went to Restoration Hardware to seek out some comfy couches and chairs. We picked these cream colored pieces that felt perfect for a den vibe. The couch is a queen sleeper and the two club chairs recline all the way back with a foot rest. A more acceptable looking lazy boy if you will! We are actually total home bodies so we moved one of the club chairs from its original corner by the nesting tables, and moved it so we both could have prime seating for our Ray Donovan binges. Obviously this chair goes right back to it's place when we have people over - but I chose to be totally honest in this post!
Need a cozy blanket? I love this faux sheepskin one!
Since the room is on the darker side, I wanted light furniture to compliment. After finding my cream pieces I went with the acrylic look for everything else. My coffee table and nesting tables were total steals from CB2. I have found a few great pieces from that store (including my champagne racks on the bar cart) - you CAN achieve the acrylic look for less! My end tables were more of a splurge from Jonathan Adler but I really liked the nickel details which went with the light fixtures.
The two velvet and one spotted pillows I found on Etsy! The other two I got from Serena & Lily and I thought playing with the spots with the solid and the pattern was really fun on the relatively neutral couch. The rug from One King's Lane is really durable so when we have people over to watch the Superbowl in here I'm not cringing the entire time. Rugs USA also has a ton and I mean a ton of options for insanely affordable prices - I highly recommend any den or play room rugs to come from here!
I think eventually I would love to blow up a giant picture from Africa to hang above our couch - there is one shot I got of three elephants that would be really beautiful here or even a Gray Malin shot of the Amalfi. I have a bad habit of wanting to change things up after a few months which is NOT a good habit to have but if I do change something I will make sure to document it!!
