It Starts At Home

My blog has always been a light place. I rarely share anything personal. Usually on the weekends, I round up my favorite links and sales and share them with you. But my mind has been elsewhere. It's been where just about everyone else's has been this past week. I've been struggling to find the right words (a writer I am not) or the right way in which I can make a difference and I keep coming back to these words by Cleo Wade:

The world will say to you:
We need to end racism.
Start by
Healing it in your own family.
The world will say to you:
How do we speak to bias and bigotry?
Start by
Having the first conversation at your own kitchen table
The world will say to you:
There is too much hate.
Devote yourself to love.
Love yourself
So much that you can love others without barriers
And without judgement.

-Cleo Wade

As a mother, these words were so powerful to me. I promise as a mother to four young children, to start the conversation at home. Cleo Wade's "Where to Begin" Print is for sale but currently sold out. All proceeds from the print will go to the Antiracist Research & Policy Center. The second these prints are back in stock, I plan on buying for our family and friends. If you are trying to find a good place on how to be a better ally and an antiracist, Cleo also has an informative page with tons of valuable information, books for children, articles, documentaries and shows on how to be anti-racist everyday in our communities.

1 John 3:17-18

"But if anyone has the world's goods and sees his brother in need, yet closes his heart against him, how does God's love abide in him? Little children, let us not love in word or talk but in deed and in truth."

We recently made a donation to the Minnesota Freedom Fund. If you have the means, I hope you will join me and make a contribution, too. I have so much more to to learn and the conversation doesn't end here; I promise to keep it going, starting at home first.
